The Oldest Bach Festival

Welcome to the 74th Annual Los Angeles Bach Festival. From October 14th to the 28th, the music of Bach—his antecedents, his contemporaries, and even a few not so contemporary—will fill the splendid gothic sanctuaries of First Congregational Church of Los Angeles. You can experience the music as Bach intended it, in the type of architecture and sacred surroundings for which it was originally composed. In this way, this music will touch your very heart and soul in the same way it has since it was first performed.

Some of Los Angeles' best musicians are featured throughout this year's Festival, with a wide variety of programs and performers to enjoy. Organist Paul Jacobs is one of the world's finest and most dynamic organists, and I know his playing will transport you. I particularly encourage you to attend our free Midday musical offerings, and the very special concert by budding young artists as part of the Junior Bach Festival.

This year's Festival Finale is a special one, featuring Bach's charming and magical Christmas Oratorio of 1734, a series of lyrical meditations held together by the Christmas story as told by Matthew and Luke. Originally written to be performed on six different days, from Christmas through Epiphany, and last performed on the Festival in 1998, this delightful work is a perfect early start-up to your holiday season. Come see and hear why people have been inspired for nearly three-quarters of a century through the experience of the 74th Annual Los Angeles Bach Festival!
