THE FREE MIDDAY ORGAN CONCERTS Free half hour concert every Thursday beginning at 12:10 PM Organist in Residence S. Wayne Foster and his guests offer Free Concerts every Thursday at 12:10 PM throughout the year. CD recordings and a new DVD about the Great Organs are available for purchase.
LOS ANGELES BACH FESTIVAL We are preparing for a great celebration of the 75th Annual Los Angeles Bach Festival beginning October 19, 2008 through November 2, 2008. As you know we have just completed this 74th Annual Los Angeles Bach Festival. It is wonderful to imagine that this festival, conceived of by conductor John Smallman in 1933, continues as an important force in the musical life of Los Angeles to this day. Why does it thrive? Certainly in large part because of the incredible depth and vastness of the repertoire of Johann Sebastian Bach’s music; still as potent and moving today as it was over 250 years ago, touching the spiritual dimension in us all. It is because of the location, the glorious gothic architecture, stained glass windows, and reverberant acoustics of First Church. It is also because it is a Los Angeles event, focusing on this great city and the people from throughout the region that attend and perform.
